Class Syllabus

Mr. Stromer

 

World Geography is a one-semester 9th grade course that is a requirement for graduation. This class covers both Human and Physical Geography from around the world. Topics of study will include:

 

1.     Geography Fundamentals

2.    Climate and Weather

3.    Culture and Population

4.    Religion

5.    Human Interaction with the Environment

 

Grading:

 

Your grade in this class will be based on total points.  I do not weigh tests to be worth more than papers and daily work.  I will do my best to post grades every other week and to regularly update grades on basmati. You will be graded on the following scale:

Grading Criteria

93%-100% = A
90% - 92% = A-
87% - 89% = B+
83% - 86% = B
80% - 82% = B-
77% - 79% = C+
73% - 76% = C
70% - 72% = C-
67% - 69% = D+
60% - 66% = D
59% - 0%   = F

Participation:

Periodically throughout the term, I will grade you on participation. You will receive points for being involved, being on task, and contributing to a positive classroom environment.

         Semester Requirements and Approximate Percentage Breakdown

 

              -     Daily Assignments/Notes/Other Projects:              50%

              -     Tests (including a comprehensive final):                  35%

              -     A 300 point individual project/presentation:           15%

              -     Total:                                                                    100%

 

“The Atlas of World Geography” will be the primary text used during the class in addition to other selected readings and handouts.
